Conversations with Cindy: Speaking of Retail

Posted by Cindy Morris on December 11, 2024

As we finalize the Market Center plans for January, we’re really excited about the return of our Speaking of Retail series of sessions during the Total Home & Gift Market. What’s really special is that this year’s program is being organized by the mother-daughter team from the Dallas retailer Coco & Dash, who also happen to be opening a showroom, Coco & Dash To The Trade, in January.

We’re calling it “A Collective of Conversations” and I invite you attend one session or all three which will focus on a number of topics of that will be honest and open exchanges to generate ideas and plans for 2025. Presented by Dallas Market Center, Coco & Dash Home, and ART, all sessions take place at noon in the new Textile Salon, IHDC 2F215. And lunch is provided too.

The program kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at noon, with “Family Ties, Navigating Family Dynamics in Business Ownership.” Listen in as top retail experts share insights on leveraging strengths and resolving conflicts while exploring the unique challenges and benefits of working with family. Joining Teddie and Courtney Garrigan are Kathy Adams, Kelly Clark and Kristy Adams of Kathy Adams Furniture

On Thursday, the 9th, the session is “Visual Storytelling, Merchandising & Creating Spaces that Engage,” focusing on the art of using design to tell a brand’s story and captivate customers. The panel, featuring the Garrigans and Laura Hodges of Domain by Laura Hodges Studio and Kenneth Ludwig and Kenneth Ludwig Chicago, will discuss strategies for creating immersive environments through thoughtful displays, layout, and decor.

On Friday, the 10th, the series wraps up with “Studio to Storefront, Making the Journey from Design to Brick & Mortar.” Join as retail experts share experiences and strategies for overcoming challenges, attracting customers and balancing a studio-based design business with the demands of a physical store environment. Teddie and Courtney are joined by Susan Hoechner of Barbara Stewart Interiors and Jamie Merida of Bountiful Home.

Also debuting at market in January is Coco & Dash To The Trade, a multi-line showroom offering art, mirrors, pillows, lampshades, lighting, textiles, beds, bedding, lifestyle items, antiques and interior design services. Located in IHDC 1D106, the showroom will showcase Coco & Dash Heritage, Fete Home, Fleur Home, Jill Seale Design Studio, Matouk, Ornis Gallery, Pooky Lighting, Reprotique, R. Lusk Studios, Savoy House and Trey Hoffmann Art. Additionally, showroom partners will include Thibaut, F. Schumacher & Co., Fermoie, Cowtan & Tout, and Custom Workroom Services.

I’m personally very proud of the Speaking of Retail series, I think it’s what makes our Market Center stand out and provides the kind of insights that make attending a market in person so worthwhile. Hope you can join us.

And hoping too for joyous and happy holidays to you and yours from everyone at the Dallas Market Center and from the Morris family. See you in January 2025.
