The June edition of Lightovation — home to the most comprehensive collection of fixed, portable and trend lighting — was one to remember, thanks in large part to new product introductions that left us wowed. Three looks in particular stood out as we toured the showrooms — delicate silhouettes, white and scallop detailing.
Delicate Silhouettes

A trend with European roots, silhouettes that were delicate, slender and airy were everywhere. From lanterns to linear chandeliers to orbs, spindly framing allowed for negative space — and the light source — to steal the show. This style is particularly fitting for LED, where the ultra-slim profile allows for such construction, but more traditional details were also present.

White

Black finishes have stood out during the last few editions of Lightovation. And while these dark washes are still everywhere, we saw an incoming color this time around — white! In matte as well as shiny, white finishes bring a sophisticated, bright pop to fixtures. Paired with a metallic accent, like gold or brass as the white often was, warms up the look.
Where is white coming from? Jeff Dross, Corporate Director, Education and Industry Trends at Kichler Lighting, says this trend is likely being influenced by the return of white appliances in the kitchen, providing a fresh coordinating option.

Scallop Detailing

A look taken straight from the runways, scallop detailing brings a soft, unexpected touch to decorative lighting. Shown in both a soft undulating silhouette, or as a detail on a shade, scallops can make even contemporary styling seem more approachable.
