Conversations with Cindy: The Tariff Drama Isn't Over Yet

Posted by Cindy Morris on September 10, 2025

And I’m proud to say the Dallas Market Center continues to fight the good fight on behalf of our exhibitors, attendees and the industries we serve. There’s still a long way to go until the problems caused by these tariffs recede, but we are seeing progress.

Just as the summer was ending, we did get some good news when the Federal Circuit declared the tariffs illegal, basically saying that President Trump didn’t have the power to increase tariffs like he did. Working along with the Goldwater Institute, the Dallas Market Center filed an amicus brief before the court in July and it was cited by the Federal Circuit in their decision.

The case is likely to go to the Supreme Court next and even if in the meantime the current tariffs stay in place this is encouraging news for those of us who believe these are unfair for American businesses and American consumers. For now, we continue to meet with our elected officials and monitor all the lawsuits surrounding this issue -- and trust me, there are plenty of them.

We also have to give a shout-out to Susan Williams of Kalalou who has been actively promoting her solution to tariffs. It’s essentially an Employee Profit Share Tax Credit plan that would permit companies that import goods to share 10 percent of their net profits with their employees to qualify. In return, they would receive 90 percent of their tariff payments back from the government and the government keeps the remaining 10 percent.

Susan was recently on The Freight Buyers Club podcast and also had an article outlining her plan published in Gifts & Decorative Accessories magazine. Susan’s drive and energy is to be admired!

Whatever the solutions to the current crisis end up being we are all pushing for a quick resolution. We all have day jobs running our businesses, our stores -- and our lives -- and it’s about time we got back to what’s really important for us and our great country.
