I’ve always thought if there’s ever one merchandise category that ties together all the various categories and companies that comprise the Dallas Market Center it’s fashion accessories.
More so than ever, it includes the kind of products that retailers across the entire merchandising spectrum, from apparel to gift to home, carry in their stores. Shoppers expect to find fashion accessories and they are often among the best sellers for many retailers.
It's why we’ve continued to build out the number of resources for fashion accessories in fashion neighborhoods and across much of The Temps areas, which by the way, we’ve just reorganized for the June Total Home & Gift Market to make it easier to shop. Gift showrooms have also added more fashion accessories companies into their mix. We now have literally hundreds of brands and resources offering fashion accessories across campus.
This focus on fashion accessories has taken on new meaning more recently. We all know business is challenging out there with pricing pressures and material cost increases. Fashion accessories, whether its jewelry, scarves, hats or the hundreds of other items that fall under this category are a terrific way to get shoppers not only engaged with your store but also to start a purchasing activity that often times leads to a much bigger ticket.
You don’t need me to tell you how to be an effective merchant. We’re just here to give you the tools you need to be successful in that business but when I visit stores around the country I find that fashion accessories often lead the way.
