If you love emerald green, natural stone materials and softer shapes you’re going to love 2021. A cross section of forecasters from the media and retailing worlds have all kinds of predictions about what kind of a design year it’s going to be but certain themes turn up often.

Here are some of the forecasts for the New Year:

Colors & More, from Charish: The high-end online home décor site identified two key colors for 2021, both from the natural spectrum: Celery Green and Terracotta. It also said look for softer touch products, geometric designs and two-toned color combinations on furniture and décor items.

Going Au Natural, from Ikea: The global home furnishings retailer predicts that homes will get lighter and more natural, with bigger windows, more outdoor space and products with antimicrobial finishes like copper.

Eight to Watch, from Wayfair: The big online seller’s professional design experts see eight trends emerging this year: Curved furniture silhouettes, an 80’s revival with bold, glossy shapes and finishes, emerald green as a key color, nature as a big inspiration in color and textures, updated traditional motifs, more Boho chic, Art Deco glam and, finally, cozy comfort stylings.

Spaces & Colors, from 1stDibs.com: The high-end online marketplace says it expects to see more flex space combining home office and leisure and more use of nature indoors, be it plants or natural materials like stone. Health and wellness will be a big consideration in designing spaces and on the color front, watch for a 70’s redux with emerald, cobalt blue, burnt orange and mustard.

Lighting Gets More Functional, from Inside.Lighting. The online information source quoted industry executives saying they expect to see more environmentally sound lighting, but also products that address health and wellness issues as well as energy usage.
