In 1965, father-and-son homebuilders Robert and Fred Lee were unimpressed with the lighting available to them, so they did what any enterprising builders would do: they opened their own lighting showroom in Atlanta. Working out of an old grocery store, they began importing fixtures and assembling them in-house. That modest operation grew into an assembly plant, a warehouse, a catalog, and a national network of sales representatives, and Savoy House was born. Today, the company is led by the third generation of the Lee family. CEO Troy Lee, who also heads the Progressive Lighting retail showrooms, started out at age 12 sweeping floors in the family business. “I realized then that I loved this industry — the creativity, the excitement of new homeowners selecting their lighting packages,” Lee said. “I knew this was where I wanted to work.” That retail background is still Savoy House’s secret weapon. Because the family runs its own showrooms, it sees firsthand what shoppers want and what installers struggle with, then designs fixtures to match. ## A Dallas Institution Savoy House has long been a cornerstone of [Lightovation](https://dallasmarketcenter.com/lightovation), and in 2019 the company announced it would nearly double its Dallas Market Center showroom to approximately 15,000 square feet, creating one of the largest lighting showrooms on campus. “The Dallas marketplace offers us this unique opportunity to dramatically expand and to efficiently reach loyal and new buyers,” Lee said at the time. Dallas Market Center president and CEO Cindy Morris put it simply: “Savoy House is already an important marketplace destination, but this expansion creates a Dallas institution.” ![1-7935-18-89](https://blog.dallasmarketcenter.com/hs-fs/hubfs/1-7935-18-89.jpg?width=490&height=447&name=1-7935-18-89.jpg) Lee’s commitment to Dallas goes beyond the showroom walls. He has served as chairman of the Lightovation Board and helped establish DMC’s [Lighting Concierge](https://www.dallasmarketcenter.com/lighting-concierge/), which helps designers and buyers navigate the market and stay current on lighting technology. “A consumer will appreciate and spend more money as they become more educated,” he explained. And yes, the rumors are true: the showroom is famous for its gelato and barista bar. (Lee’s favorite flavor? Salted caramel.) ## Designers in the Spotlight Some of the showroom’s most talked-about pieces come from Savoy House’s designer partners. HGTV personality [Breegan Jane](https://www.savoyhouse.com/designer-collections/breeganjane), who calls lighting “the jewels of a space,” brings travel-inspired glamour. [Dann Foley](https://www.savoyhouse.com/designer-collections/dann-foley-lighting-by-savoy-house)’s new “Collected & Curated” line pairs classic silhouettes with luxe materials like onyx, marble, and solid wood.
