September's ArchLIGHT Summit Connects Design / Build Community

Written by Laura Van Zeyl | July 20, 2023

Dallas Market Center has long been renowned for its lighting leadership after decades of hosting the semi-annual Lightovation, the largest residential lighting show in the Western Hemisphere. Now in its third year, DMC’s ArchLIGHT Summit attracts the entire design/build community with the latest lighting technologies from leading manufacturers alongside a robust schedule of CEU programming and events for architects, specifiers, interior designers, lighting designers and other professionals seeking to connect with other disciplines and stay in the know.

ArchLIGHT Summit runs September 19-20 and offers more than 20 CEU opportunities over its two days. Attendees driving in for the event can enjoy complimentary valet parking in front of the Dallas Trade Mart (2100 N. Stemmons Freeway), and those needing hotel accommodations receive a special rate of $189/night at the Renaissance Dallas, which is within walking distance of DMC. Use this link to book in this exclusive block.

DMC’s Lighting Concierge Arturo Maluy, located right in the front registration area of the Trade Mart, will be available to assist trade attendees with navigation or any other help they may need to ensure a productive visit. Maluy will also lead one of the five category-specific Docent Tours happening throughout the event.

Women in Lighting + Design (WILD) will kick of the third annual ArchLIGHT Summit with a welcome reception at 6pm on Monday, September 18, at the top of the Dallas World Trade Center, offering spectacular sunset views of downtown Dallas for all participants.

Exhibits will be open 9am-6pm on Tuesday, September 19, and 9am-3pm on Wednesday, September 18, on the first floor of the Trade Mart.

Registration or the exposition portion of the event is complimentary, and a flat fee of $50 allows access to all CEUs over both days. With guidance from an expert Advisory Board, these sessions encompass a variety of topics beyond the field of lighting application, as well as interactive workshops and dynamic demonstrations.

New for 2023, one of the presentation venues will be conveniently located on the ArchLIGHT Summit show floor. This Light Bites stage will feature shorter, easily digestible sessions and engaging discussions.

Speaker, event and attraction highlights for the 2023 event include:

  • Lovers of Light, a traveling team game show making its first appearance in Dallas and benefiting the International Association of Lighting Designers Education Trust. The game show follows an opening night Happy Hour starting at 5pm on Tuesday, September 19, and is open to all participants.
  • Earlier that day, HOK’s Ben Crawford moderates an AIA Dallas panel discussing the importance of lighting in public spaces. Panelists include 5G Studio’s Yen Ong, lighting designer Scott Oldner and Ryan Companies’ Dana Hamdan, who worked on the AT&T Discovery District project while at Gensler in Dallas.
  • That day on the Light Bites stage, the Dallas Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society will host an on-site design competition called Luminaire-Aware. Themed around sustainability, the name plays off of AWARE, an innovative art installation commissioned exclusively for ArchLIGHT Summit by The Lighting Exchange that will be on display throughout the event.
  • In another nod to sustainability, ArchLIGHT Summit has partnered with Sourcery to reduce paper waste and increase engagement. Attendees will be able to digitally save products they see on the show floor using the Sourcery app.
  • On Wednesday, September 20, AIA Dallas’ Latinos in Architecture group will present on the Light Bites Stage; and Hayley Kinlaw and Ryon Sommerer of AE Design will explain how to navigate project budgets.
  • Over both days, lighting designers Tony Esposito and Jason Livingston will present a demonstration of TM-30 color rendition, which has been very popular at past events and will be updated for 2023. Concepts will be illustrated using different surfaces and colors in a retail-like display, even incorporating live models to visualize these effects on various skin tones.
  • Another session repeated over both days to ensure capacity is accommodated will be Shoshanna Segal of Hartranft Lighting Design, who will present about tools for successful lighting control specification.
  • A Wednesday Student Day will include student-oriented versions of the TM-30 and lighting control sessions, as well as a workshop with Light Justice addressing lighting inequity in a local underserved community and a presentation from the IALD Education Trust about the lighting design profession. Students and educators may request a code for complimentary registration for both event days.

DMC looks forward to hosting you at the September 19-20 ArchLIGHT Summit for productive days of connection, celebration, innovation and education.
