Conversations with Cindy: AI is No Longer the Future, It's Here Now

Posted by Cindy Morris on August 18, 2026

It wasn’t that long ago that when you mentioned AI to someone there was lots of talk about science fiction, robots, and all kinds of predictions about the future.

Well, as we are all learning, the future is here. If you’re not using AI in your business, you’re rapidly falling behind.

At Dallas Market Center, we are fully embracing AI and taking it very seriously, because it’s a game changer for our industry. It’s why our D2B newsletter will include regular reports on the subject of AI and what it means for your businesses. You’ll also be hearing from us in other communications as we all learn how we can use it more efficiently.

We’ll be launching a series of educational opportunities for retailers to get started or to sharpen their skills. Keep watching for more details as we develop these programs. You’ll see multiple in-person opportunities to learn and share, starting with our January markets and shows. And I’m positive as we get further into AI, there will be even more we’ll be bringing to you.

I remember when the internet first came into our lives — it’s been more than 25 years, by the way. There was a great deal of apprehension and uncertainty about what was going to happen. Some people ignored it and hoped it would go away, but I’m afraid in many cases they were the ones who went away. The internet has made all our lives better and been an amazing tool for our companies. I’m convinced AI will ultimately do the same thing.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company that most of us first came into contact with for this new technology and someone who knows a thing or two about the subject, has a great quote on all of this: "AI won't replace humans, but humans who use AI will replace those who don't."

The future is now.
